Background of the study
Workplace harassment is a pervasive issue affecting employee well-being and job satisfaction, especially among female workers in various sectors. In Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, reports indicate that female employees face a range of harassment behaviors, from subtle discriminatory practices to overt acts of intimidation. Such experiences often lead to decreased job satisfaction, increased stress levels, and lower productivity. Contemporary research underscores that harassment not only undermines individual performance but also damages the overall organizational culture (Ajayi, 2023; Daramola, 2024). Moreover, workplace harassment is intricately linked to power dynamics and gender inequality, making it a critical issue in environments where women are expected to balance professional roles with societal expectations. The study explores the various forms of harassment encountered by female workers and examines their direct effects on job satisfaction. It also investigates the organizational mechanisms in place to address and mitigate these issues. By considering the intersection of gender, culture, and workplace environment, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how harassment influences female workers’ professional experiences and overall morale. Given the evolving legislative frameworks and increased advocacy for gender equality, it is imperative to assess whether existing policies are adequate in protecting female employees from harassment and promoting a safe work environment (Olaoye, 2025).
Statement of the problem
In Ota, the prevalence of workplace harassment against female workers has become a significant impediment to achieving high levels of job satisfaction and productivity. Despite various organizational policies and anti-harassment campaigns, many female employees continue to experience behaviors that undermine their professional dignity and hinder their career progression. This problem is exacerbated by the lack of effective enforcement of existing regulations and the cultural normalization of gender-based discrimination. Consequently, affected employees often experience emotional distress, reduced commitment, and increased turnover, which in turn affects organizational efficiency. The persistent challenge of workplace harassment calls for a systematic inquiry into the types of harassment experienced, their frequency, and their impact on job satisfaction among female workers in Ota. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for designing interventions that can foster a safer and more equitable workplace, ensuring that female employees are supported in their professional endeavors (Ibid., 2023).
